Baptisms

Baptism (or Christening) is a joyful occasion as we welcome a child or adult into the family of the Church. If you would like your child to be baptised in Teddington Parish, please contact us:

📧 Email: baptisms@teddingtonparish.org
📞 The Revd. David Cloake: 07729 944769

We hold baptisms at noon on most Sundays throughout the year. The service lasts around 30 minutes and typically includes two families. Occasionally, baptisms take place during our 10am Parish Eucharist, particularly if the family is part of our regular congregation.

What Happens at Baptism?

Baptism is a special moment in which:

  • We give thanks for the gift of a child and their family.*
  • The candidate is baptised with water in the name of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as a sign of God’s love.
  • Parents and godparents make promises to support and nurture the newly baptised in their faith journey.

*Adults may also be baptised.

Preparing for Baptism

Before the baptism, we may invite you to a baptism preparation evening, led by our clergy. This is a chance to explore what baptism means, what happens in the service, and to meet other parents preparing for this special occasion.
